6:30am, indoor cycling, & making a difference – Toys for Tots

I get inspired each and every day I walk into my 6:30am indoor cycling/spin class at One Health Club in Mississauga.  We work hard, we laugh, we support each other, and we celebrate the wins along the way.

One of the themes that expresses itself in each class is how our actions can, and do impact others.  Choosing to lead a more active life is the catalyst and seeing positive changes in ourselves while inspiring others is the result.

Individually, we ‘give back’ to our family, our friends, our communities…and sometimes to those we don’t even know.  But, what happens when one class embarks on a journey to make a difference in someone else’s life?

The idea?  A small donation towards the purchase of a bike to give a child this holiday season.  We already recognize the benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle.  What better way is there for a child to stay active (and have that incredible feeling of freedom)?  It’s the same thing we’re doing – we’re riding our bikes!

We also recognize that Christmas morning is not the same for all children.  Our hope is that this gift brings a Christmas morning full of smiles and memories to last a lifetime.

So, what happens when an amazing group of people come together for a common goal?  Something special!  Sitting in the spin studio this morning was not just one child’s bike…but three brand new bikes (and helmets)!

Yes, this class inspires me each and every day.

A special thanks to Zoe Brown of the Peel Regional Police and one of the coordinators of the 2011 Toys for Tots program.  She dropped into our 6:30am class (!!!) to accept the bikes and to say thank-you on behalf of the children.  Very cool, indeed!

You KNOW what I’ll be thinking about on Christmas morning…and it’s guaranteed to put a smile on my face.

A photo from this morning…a few of the regular 6:30am cyclists (post-workout and very sweaty!).  One cyclist had to leave before the photo was taken, but was there in spirit!
