Dal bhat

The traditional Nepalese dish is daal bhaat…daal is like a lentil soup and bhaat is rice.  It will often come with curried vegetables and sometimes, spicy achar (pickles).  That was our first meal in Nepal.

The whole idea is to mix everything together.  Some will use their hand to roll up the mixture into balls and eat it from their hand.  We chose to use cutlery this time around…but maybe next time!

We’ve been warned that since we’ll likely be eating a lot of daal bhaat while trekking, we’ll likely get tired of it.  But, at least for now…mmmmm!  …or maybe it was the fact that it was accompanied by the Everest beer!!

It seems that we’ve already done a lot since we’ve arrived with very little down-time.  But, we head off to Pokhara tomorrow and then begin our trek the day following.  So we’ll try to catch up a bit and send a couple of updates before we head off to the mountains.

Having fun!
