Mti Mkubwa to Shira 1 Camp

Mohammad (asst guide) and Yusuf (guide):

We heard blue monkeys throughout the night - very noisy and yet a unique experience...so it didn't bother us at all.

After packing up the gear, having breakfast, and filtering water, we put on the packs for another day on the trail. This was a tough section with lots of climbing (elevation gain), but going poley poley makes it very doable.

We stopped for lunch along the saddle between two peaks and it was a welcomed and very filling spread of food. We were out of the jungle and forests now and were walking through the moorlands. The vegetation changes so much, to shorter shrubs and a variety of flowering plants. A different kind of beauty.

More climbing to the Shira Ridge and then back down to Shira Camp 1. Everyone is feeling great so far, no altitude issues yet and we hope this continues!

We felt so good that we just finished playing football and frisbee for the past couple of hours with the porters. Our group is not the only one at this camp, so we got several porters involved. No language barriers when fun and sport are involved

We are enjoying this trip so much and are thrilled that we did it at this time of year - not nearly as busy as it could be.

WOW! Following your adventure this way is great. The picture of the mountain is gorgeous. Sounds like you are really seeing very different landscape than any other part of the world you have visited so far. You met so many interesting people travelling especially in the type of activity that you are doing as it takes a very special person like you two even consider attempting it. Playing sports is a great ice breaker no matter which language you use. Thanks for keeping us posted.
