To be admitted to Nature's hearth costs nothing. None is excluded, but excludes himself.

Shira Camp 1 to Shira Camp 2

This was scheduled to be a shorter day, but before I get into that...

it was a cold night last night for sleeping, but the night sky was the most beautiful thing to see. I've seen a star-filled night before, but this is like nothing I've ever seen. The sky was just a mass of stars and seeing the Northern Lights back home is the next closest thing of beauty, in my opinion. As it turns out there will be more of these nights.

But as for the trek today, we got going around 8:15am after a great breakfast and getting our gear packed.

We continued through moorland areas and got our first glimpse of a groundsel tree, lobelia, and other plants. Our guide has a background education in ecology and so we're learning so much about what we're seeing each day - animal life, plant life, various ecosystems. And we've picked up a number of Swahili phrases!!

When we arrived at Shira 2 camp, a hot lunch was ready for us (but alas, too many rocks and boulders to allow for a football game). What I should tell you is that while we are walking poley poley, the porters pack up the previous camp and fly past us on the trail to arrive at the next camp before we do and set up the gear.

After dinner, a few games of cards, and some laughs, we crawled into our tents while frost had already covered the ground and the tents. It's going to be a frosty one.
